Alcaraz says he is relaxed about Ferrero's next coaching move
Carlos Alcaraz has responded warmly to news that Juan Carlos Ferrero, his former coach, expects to return to coaching on the ATP Tour next year.

Carlos Alcaraz says he has no issue with Juan Carlos Ferrero returning to coaching on the tour, whoever the Spaniard ends up working with, according to Tennis365.
Ferrero and Alcaraz ended their partnership in December 2025, closing a relationship that had run since 2018, when Alcaraz was just 15. Under Ferrero, Alcaraz won 24 ATP Tour singles titles, including six Grand Slams. Samuel Lopez, who had previously worked alongside Ferrero at his academy, has since taken over as Alcaraz's head coach.
Speaking to Movistar+ earlier this month, Ferrero indicated he expects to be back on the circuit before long. "This year, I'm very calm, enjoying my family and preparing for what's coming next year," he said. "I think I'm going to return to the tennis circuit, but I can't say with whom."
Before his years with Alcaraz, Ferrero had a brief spell coaching Alexander Zverev, between July 2017 and February 2018.
In June, Ferrero told Corriere della Sera he would now be open to working with Jannik Sinner, the player who has become Alcaraz's fiercest rival. "A few months ago, I would have said no: my split with Carlos was still fresh, and I wouldn't have been ready," he said. "But now that I feel stronger, I say: why not? Sinner loves to work hard and is willing to do whatever it takes to stay No. 1: I like that attitude. It would be wonderful to coach him."
Asked by journalist James Gray for his reaction to Ferrero's plans, Alcaraz was relaxed about the prospect. "He hasn't told me anything. I'm very happy that he's coming back to the circuit," said the seven-time Grand Slam champion. "We'll see each other. It will be great. It doesn't matter who he coaches, I think it will be very good."
Alcaraz's own season has been shaped by injury. He returned from more than four months out with a right wrist problem to compete at the 2026 US Open, reaching the quarter-finals. The world No 3 is now preparing to defend his title at the Japan Open.
