Stan Wawrinka has confirmed that Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Gael Monfils will all feature at the exhibition marking his retirement from professional tennis, staged in Geneva on 19 December, according to Independent Sport.

The 41-year-old Swiss, a three-time Grand Slam champion, will bring down the curtain on his competitive career at the Swiss Indoors in Basel next week before the farewell event takes place.

Wawrinka revealed the trio's involvement after his first-round win at the Lyon Open, where he was subsequently beaten by Flavio Cobolli in the second round, Independent Sport reported.

Yahoo Sports noted that over 24 years on tour Wawrinka reached a career-high ranking of world number three, collected 16 tour-level titles and recorded wins over all three members of tennis's so-called Big Three.

Monfils' place in the line-up is the most unexpected of the three, given the circumstances surrounding his own abrupt exit from the sport in recent weeks.

The Frenchman had originally intended to retire at the 2026 Paris Masters in November and had also planned to compete in Lyon this week, but he withdrew from both events and ended his career without the send-off he had envisaged.

His decision followed his separation from wife and fellow professional Elina Svitolina, Independent Sport reported.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency has since added the 40-year-old to its official retired list and confirmed he has removed himself from the sport's anti-doping protocols, a status that leaves him ineligible to enter competitive tournaments.

Tennis365 reported comments from the ITIA's head of communication, given to French newspaper L'Equipe, confirming the change in Monfils' status: "He (Monfils) informed us about it; he is now considered retired and is no longer authorised to participate in tournaments."

The same ITIA official added that any return to the tour would not be straightforward, telling L'Equipe: "Technically, he would need to undergo six months of out-of-competition testing before being able to return to the competition. Just like Serena Williams did."

That restriction does not apply to an exhibition appearance, which means Wawrinka's farewell in Geneva will double as the last occasion fans see Monfils on a tennis court.

With Wawrinka's own playing days ending in Basel and Monfils' competitive career already over, the December exhibition stands as the final meaningful appearance for both players, alongside Federer and Murray, who have both long since retired from the tour themselves.
