Ocon says he is a free agent as Haas delay 2027 driver decision

Esteban Ocon has described himself as a free agent for 2027, revealing he is in talks with rival teams while Haas has yet to confirm its driver line-up.

Esteban Ocon has confirmed he is talking to other Formula 1 teams about a seat for 2027, describing himself as a "free agent" while Haas continues to withhold any decision on next year's driver pairing.

The Frenchman stopped short of ruling himself out of a continued stay at Haas, leaving the door open to an extension even as he explores his options elsewhere on the grid, according to Autosport.

His comments come at a point in the season where his own form and the team's results have moved in opposite directions.

Ocon has been producing markedly improved performances in recent races, but those drives have gone largely unrewarded because Haas' overall competitiveness has fallen away.

The American-owned outfit had been scoring points regularly earlier in the campaign, but that early-season form has since slipped, leaving Ocon's strong individual showings unable to translate into results for the team.

That contrast between driver and car performance appears to sit behind the uncertainty over his contract status, with Haas yet to lock in either half of its 2027 line-up.

For now, Ocon's position remains unresolved, with talks ongoing away from Haas even as a return to the team is not off the table.

The 2027 driver market, in which Ocon's future forms one piece, is likely to remain a talking point across the remainder of the season as teams up and down the grid finalise their plans.
