Ping G440 Max Driver Discounted By $170 At US Retailer

Golf Monthly's testing found the G440 Max notably more forgiving than its G430 predecessor, and it is currently reduced by $170 at Carl's Golfland.

Ping's G440 Max driver has been cut in price by $170 at Carl's Golfland, bringing it down to $447 from its usual $617, according to Golf Monthly.

The discount amounts to a 28% saving and applies to a club that reviewer Joe Ferguson rates among the most forgiving drivers he has tested, citing its performance even on thinner strikes across the face.

Ping remains one of golf's 'big four' manufacturers, and the G440 Max sits alongside the draw-biased G440 SFT, the lower-spinning G440 LST and the long-standing G430 Max 10K in the brand's current driver line-up.

Ferguson, who tested the club as a PGA professional and experienced fitter, found the G440 Max increased his launch angle by more than a degree, a benefit he attributes to a lower centre of gravity built into the wider G440 range.

That lower CG, he explains, allows a fitter or coach to reduce the driver's loft to boost ball speed without sacrificing flight, giving players more scope to fine-tune performance.

The G440 Max also introduces an adjustable back weight, which Ferguson says is useful for golfers with a predictable mishit, since shifting the weight towards a heel or toe strike adds clubhead mass at the point of contact.

Visually, the driver now carries the Carbonfly Wrap finish that had previously been reserved for the G430 LST, a detail Ferguson says improves the club's footprint and appearance at address.

He also notes an improvement in feel compared with the G430 range, which he found prone to a degree of vibration at impact; the G440 Max, by contrast, strikes smoother and more stable.

The same 28% reduction at Carl's Golfland extends to the other two drivers in the range. The G440 LST, aimed at higher swing-speed players seeking a low-spin, high-launch flight from its 450cc head, carries a fade bias for those prioritising control alongside distance.

The G440 SFT, meanwhile, is built to counter a slice, with Draw and Draw+ adjustable back-weight settings designed to straighten out wayward tee shots.

Ferguson concludes that the G440 Max will suit all but the most extreme swing speeds and shot shapes, and argues the current price makes it worth considering for golfers weighing up a driver upgrade this off-season.
