South Africa seal series win over Australia, reclaim No.1 Test ranking
Temba Bavuma lifted the trophy at Newlands after Australia collapsed on the final day, with Marnus Labuschagne out for four as David Warner's pre-match prediction unravelled.

South Africa beat Australia in the third Test at Newlands in Cape Town to win the series and return to the top of the world Test rankings, with Temba Bavuma collecting the trophy from his team-mates amid the celebrations on the final day, as reported by Guardian Cricket.
Australia had gone into the fifth day needing 288 to win on a pitch that had held together for four days, but their chase disintegrated almost immediately and they slipped to 60 for 7 at lunch as South Africa closed in on victory, according to Yahoo Sports.
Marnus Labuschagne, who had been tipped to anchor the innings, was out lbw to Kagiso Rabada for four in the very first over of the run chase.
That dismissal undercut a prediction David Warner had posted on Instagram before play began. Warner had backed Australia to win the match with Labuschagne unbeaten on a century. "Flat wicket, getting lower, a little bit slow, and it's turning a fair bit. What are your predictions? Comment below," he wrote, before adding: "For me, Australia victory, and this whole thing sets up for Marnus Labuschagne to be 100-odd not out at the end, and Australia win seven down."
Warner's reading of the surface had not been baseless. Ryan Rickelton and Wiaan Mulder had both made centuries on the same pitch the previous day, and Nathan Lyon had extracted considerable turn for Australia without managing to run through the South African order, Yahoo Sports noted.
Bavuma struck an unusual note in his post-match reflections on the Newlands crowd, telling reporters: "All five days, you were struggling to find empty bums on the seats." He also credited his side's momentum, saying: "We carried on with the momentum that we managed to get yesterday."
The win capped what Cricket365 described as one of the most engrossing Test series played on South African soil, with South Africa's victory built on contributions across the batting and bowling lineup rather than any single standout performer.
Cricket365's analysis highlighted Bavuma's captaincy record as central to the achievement. No player who has led in ten or more Test matches has a better win percentage than Bavuma, whose only defeat as captain came in the opening match of this very series against Australia. Since then he has drawn once and won thirteen matches, a record the outlet noted surpasses those of Donald Bradman, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting and Pat Cummins.
Cricket365 also pointed out that Bavuma has achieved this without a single specialist batsman in the current Proteas lineup averaging above 40 in Test cricket, framing the series win as a triumph of collective depth rather than individual stardom.
The result leaves South Africa installed at the top of the world Test rankings and sets up their looming series against England as the next assignment for a side now being talked about as genuine contenders at the game's top table.
