Stokes set for fresh ECB standoff over overseas franchise ambitions
Ben Stokes is understood to be in talks with US and Pakistan franchises for next summer, but the ECB looks unlikely to grant the clearance he needs.

Ben Stokes appears headed for another disagreement with the England and Wales Cricket Board after it emerged the governing body is unlikely to clear him to play in overseas franchise cricket next summer.
According to the Guardian, the former England captain has held discussions with franchises in the United States' Major League Cricket and the Pakistan Super League about featuring in their next editions.
Any such move would require a No-Objection Certificate from the ECB, and the report states the board is reluctant to issue one while Stokes remains registered with Durham.
The all-rounder also faces separate complications over his availability for the Indian Premier League, adding to the uncertainty around his schedule for next year.
Stokes has built his reputation as one of the sport's most sought-after white-ball performers, and interest from multiple franchise competitions reflects that standing in the global game.
For the ECB, the calculation centres on managing his workload and keeping him available for England duty, factors that have shaped its stance on clearance requests of this kind before.
Durham's role in that equation is significant, since Stokes's registration with the county is understood to be central to the board's reasoning for withholding permission.
No timeline has been set out for when a final decision on the NOC requests might be made, and the situation remains unresolved as things stand.
The dispute adds another layer to the scheduling questions surrounding one of the sport's biggest names, with his precise commitments for next summer still to be settled.
