Glasner warns of Forest overhaul after Brentford defeat sparks fury

Oliver Glasner threatened wholesale changes at Nottingham Forest after a 2-0 loss at Brentford left his side second from bottom, with club hierarchy said to welcome his blunt assessment.

Oliver Glasner has warned Nottingham Forest's players and staff that major changes are coming after a 2-0 defeat at Brentford left the club second from bottom in the Premier League.

Forest were beaten by a freak own goal from Nikola Milenkovic and a late Igor Thiago strike at the Gtech Stadium, a result that extended their poor run to four defeats in five games.

Glasner, appointed in the summer as Forest's fifth head coach in less than a year, said he had made too many compromises since taking charge and would no longer do so.

"If you lose four of the last five games, it's not good enough. And that's why for me, it's now time that we change things, that I change things, and that's what I will do," he said.

The Austrian went further, suggesting he could easily walk away and that the club might soon need a sixth head coach if his demands are not met.

"And if the players buy in, I think we can have a turnaround. And if not, the sixth manager will come in. I have no consequences," Glasner said. "If I want, I could start in two weeks somewhere else. I won't do it. But the players, the staff, they remain in the same situation."

He described the club's predicament in blunt terms, saying it mirrored the turmoil Forest endured a year ago. "It's the same, sorry for the word, s*** situation that the club had last year. So you need to change and rebuild from the bottom to the top," he said, adding there would be "zero" compromises going forward.

Forest's travelling supporters booed the team off the pitch after the final whistle.

Sky Sports News understands that Glasner's forthright comments have been welcomed by many figures within the Forest hierarchy.

Forest were the more threatening side for long periods, managing 15 shots to Brentford's six in the 100th Premier League fixture staged at the Gtech Community Stadium. Both goals they conceded took heavy deflections off Milenkovic, though only one was recorded as an own goal.

The defeat was Forest's sixth successive loss in matches played on Halloween. The Guardian's reading of Opta's expected-goals table showed no side in the division has underperformed its underlying numbers more than Forest this season, who sit third in the expected standings but third from bottom in the actual Premier League table.

Striker Liam Delap, signed from Chelsea for £50m in the summer, remains short of form, having scored only once since his arrival. He had three shots without reaching the target before being withdrawn 20 minutes into the second half, with the Guardian describing him as a shadow of the purposeful forward he was at Ipswich.

For Brentford, the win ended a four-match run without a victory and lifted Keith Andrews' side to sixth in the table. "I think it's our best win of the season," Andrews said, praising his players' adaptability against a Forest side set up to compress the pitch. "On so many levels I think it's a brilliant win."

Forest now face the task of turning Glasner's words into results as they sit in the bottom three, with the head coach's own position tied to whether his players respond to the changes he says are non-negotiable.
