Konsa and O'Reilly absent from England training before Czechia trip

Thomas Tuchel faces fresh selection doubts as Ezri Konsa and Nico O'Reilly sit out Monday's session ahead of England's trip to Prague.

Ezri Konsa and Nico O'Reilly were missing from England training on Monday as Thomas Tuchel's squad prepared to travel to Prague for Tuesday's meeting with Czech Republic, according to Metro Football.

Both players had featured for the full 90 minutes in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Spain at Wembley, but were not involved in the group session at Tottenham Hotspur's training ground.

An England camp statement said Konsa and O'Reilly were following individual programmes, while the rest of the 22-man squad trained together before departing for the Czech capital.

Neither has been ruled out of Tuesday's fixture, though the punishing schedule may see Tuchel manage their workload with two further matches, against Croatia and then Czech Republic again, still to come in this international window.

The head coach already had to work around a string of withdrawals before facing Spain, with Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Tino Livramento all pulling out of the original squad.

Should Konsa be unavailable, Tuchel has cover at centre-back in Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite and Como's Trevoh Chalobah, while Jarell Quansah could shift infield from right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold an option on that flank.

At left-back, Newcastle's Lewis Hall or Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly stand ready to deputise for O'Reilly if required.

Tuchel has been openly critical of the compressed fixture list that sees England play four matches between 26 September and 6 October, with only two days' rest between games.

He described the calendar as unusually demanding, saying: "I can hardly think of a period in club football where you have matches and a turnaround like we have now."

Tuchel added: "We have Saturday-Tuesday and then another Saturday-Tuesday, so only two days in between each game. That sounds too condensed if you have two-and-a-half weeks together. It does not feel 100 per cent right, I have to say."

England's attention now turns to Tuesday's fixture in Prague, with the squad's fitness picture likely to become clearer closer to kick-off.
