Travis Head's rapid hundred set up an 84-run win over Zimbabwe in the second ODI, giving Australia an unassailable series lead.

Travis Head's blistering century powered Australia to an 84-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second ODI on Friday, sealing the series with a match to spare.

Head, opening the batting, struck 112 off just 84 balls, reaching his hundred in 75 deliveries as Australia posted a formidable 356 for 6.

Captain Mitchell Marsh contributed 53, his 21st half-century in the format, while Cooper Connolly added 78 to extend his own rich vein of form.

Connolly's innings marked his third successive score of 50 or more in ODI cricket, underlining the depth Australia have found through the middle order alongside Head's aggression at the top.

Chasing 357 for victory, Zimbabwe were unable to sustain the required pace and were dismissed for 272, leaving Australia's total to stand as a match-winning score, according to Guardian Cricket, as reported by Australian Associated Press.

The result hands Australia an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the tourists having no way of denying the visitors an overall series win regardless of the outcome of the final match.

Australia will now go into the third and final ODI on Sunday as favourites to complete a clean sweep of the series, according to the report.

For Zimbabwe, the defeat means a search for answers before the series finale, having now been outplayed across both completed matches by an Australian side finding form with the bat through Head, Marsh and Connolly.

Attention now turns to Sunday's third ODI, where Australia will look to finish the series unbeaten, while Zimbabwe will be seeking at least some consolation on home soil.
