Manchester United draw 4-4 with Villa in late twist but sit in relegation zone
Two stoppage-time goals rescued a point for Manchester United against Aston Villa, but the result leaves Michael Carrick's side 18th in the Premier League.

Manchester United twice came from two goals down to draw 4-4 with Aston Villa at Old Trafford, a result that leaves Michael Carrick's side in the Premier League relegation zone heading into the international break.
Villa raced into a two-goal lead inside the opening five minutes through Alysson and Nicolas Jackson, catching United cold at home. The hosts clawed their way level before half-time, Bruno Fernandes converting a penalty before Youri Tielemans, a former Villa player, equalised against his old club.
Unai Emery's side responded immediately after the restart. John McGinn put Villa back in front shortly into the second half, and Leon Goretzka made it 4-2 on 53 minutes, appearing to have put the contest beyond United's reach.
United were not finished. Joshua Zirkzee pulled a goal back in added time, and Patrick Dorgu's header in the 96th minute completed an extraordinary salvage act, levelling the score at 4-4 and denying Villa what had looked a comfortable victory.
The Guardian's Jamie Jackson described United as having been pulled back from the brink by what he called Carrick's chaotic unit, framing the draw as the latest test of whether the manager can hold on to his job.
The comeback echoed United's midweek Champions League turnaround against Roma, when Carrick's side won 3-2 having trailed, a result that had briefly eased pressure on the head coach, according to Yahoo Sports.
Despite avoiding a third straight league defeat, Metro reported that United slipped to 18th in the Premier League after ten matches, their lowest position at this stage of a season since 1986. The club have also gone eight league games without a win, a run Metro noted they have endured only once before in the Premier League era.
Carrick sought to play down talk of a relegation fight after the match. "I'm disappointed that we haven't won the game," he said.
Before kick-off, attention had turned to whether Carrick would hand a full debut to 19-year-old Shea Lacey after his impact from the bench against Roma, when he became United's youngest-ever player to register a Champions League assist, according to Yahoo Sports. The teenager had made six appearances this season, only one of them from the start, with Amad out of form, though the Manchester Evening News had suggested a start for Lacey against Villa remained unlikely.
United's wait for a league win goes on, and Carrick's position will continue to be scrutinised over the international break as the club sits in the bottom three with the picture no clearer on how long his tenure can last.
